Michael BaroneMichael Barone | President

Mike Barone is responsible for the leadership of Intercare Insurance Solutions.  Mike’s passion for industry differentiation is evident in his leadership style and visible throughout the organization.  His background includes nearly 20 years of insurance expertise in underwriting, sales, marketing and management beginning with Prudential.  Mike later became Vice President for Health Net and was instrumental in the development of their small business unit as well as managing key clients like; Hughes Aircraft, Lockheed Martin, GTE, U.S. Government and Nordstrom .  Mike also acquired expertise in eCommerce strategies and administration systems for insurance companies and brokerage firms as Vice President of Global Accounts with ChannelPoint, an enterprise software company.  Mike is a graduate of Cornell University with a degree in economics and joined Intercare in 2004.


Deb KarsetetterDeb Karstetter, CEBS | Executive Vice President
Deb Karstetter’s responsibilities include leading and implementing Intercare’s corporate growth strategies. Deb brings to Intercare experience and expertise as an industry executive with a 20+ year career in developing organizations able to produce sustained growth and profitability. Deb’s past accomplishments include leading and building the employee benefits practice at ABD Insurance Services, in Redwood City, CA and playing a significant executive role in growing the overall company. Nationally, Deb is recognized for her involvement as past president and member of the governing council of the International Society of Certified Employee Benefits Specialists (ISCEBS); as vice-chair of the Council of Employee Benefits Executives (CEBE); and as a committee member of the International Foundation of Employee Benefits Plans (IFEBP). Deb is a graduate of Purdue University. She later received her CEBS designation from the Wharton School of Business and was recently educated at Harvard Business School and Stanford Business School in the areas of executive and leadership development. She joined Intercare Insurance Solutions in July 2007.


Lane CarusoLane Caruso | Senior Vice President, Client Services

Lane Caruso recently joined Intercare Insurance Solutions as Senior Vice President of Account Management. Lane’s responsibilities include delivering superior client service at all levels of the organization and leading new service initiatives to align with Intercare’s corporate growth strategies.

Lane brings 20 years of corporate benefits management experience with Fortune 500 organizations to Intercare. Most recently, Lane was a Senior Vice President with Bank of America where she held positions in Health and Welfare Benefits as Benefits Consultant, Strategy and Design Manager and Service Delivery Manager. While at Bank of America, Lane led the development and implementation of new health care strategies and programs, including a health advocate program, as well as managed outsourced administration and annual enrollment for the bank’s 185,000 associates and 50,000 retirees.

Lane holds a B.S. in Industrial Relations and Psychology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, NC and a M.B.A degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA. She is a prior member of the National Business Group on Health and a prior board member of the Pacific Business Group on Health. Lane and her husband recently relocated from Charlotte, NC to San Diego.

David P. DuenasDavid P. Duenas | Senior Vice President

As Senior Vice President of Intercare Insurance Solutions, David Duenas develops and maintains Intercare’s group benefit products, service offerings and strategic value-added client deliverables. Mr. Duenas specializes in statistical plan analytics as the foundation of effective benefit strategy.

Prior to joining Intercare, Mr. Duenas founded Benefits Consulting Group, a retirement and benefits consulting firm. For more than 10 years BCG consulted with large public and private corporations to provide strategic benefit and retirement programs. In June 2004 Intercare acquired BCG with Mr. Duenas appointed as a principal of the firm. Mr. Duenas began his insurance career with CIGNA. His professional credentials include the designation of an Accredited Investment Fiduciary and Candidate Certified Financial Planner. In addition, Mr. Duenas has served on the advisory council of several insurance companies and is active in the alumni association of San Diego State University, where he earned his degree in economics.

John KahleJohn Kahle | Senior Vice President, Chief Wellness Officer

John is the founder of two employee benefits brokerage companies and is currently a principal with Intercare Insurance Solutions. John has more than 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, with an emphasis on employee benefits; specifically on cost containment via self-funding and partial self-funding and the design and implementation of wellness plans.

John’s innovative approach to healthcare through integrated wellness programs began in 1990 when he received a $250,000 research grant from Blue Cross to develop claim reduction programs. John has been able to develop effective programs focused on employee education, wellness and prevention that are tied to both the employee and employer needs. He’s implemented over 50 successful corporate wellness programs; saving the sponsor companies millions of dollars.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Heidelberg College.


Tina WrotenberyTina Wrotenbery | Senior Vice President, Account Management

Tina Wrotenbery leads the Intercare Insurance Solutions Houston office as a Senior Vice President. Tina is responsible for new business development and client consulting for Intercare’s Houston market.

Prior to joining Intercare, Tina was with Wells Fargo Insurance Services as senior vice president and recognized as a top national producer in 2007. Tina has 16 years in the employee benefits business with experience in health plan providers and brokerage. Tina has also held roles at Bowen, Miclette & Britt, TLH Consultants, Advantage Health Plan and Humana Health Care Plan. Tina enjoys working with self-funded accounts and is very focused on wellness initiatives. She is eager to implement Intercare’s wellness and value-added benefits strategies in the Houston marketplace.

Tina graduated Cum Laude and holds a Video Arts and Science degree from Florida Metropolitan University. Tina holds a Texas Life and Health License and a Texas Life and Health Counselor License. Tina also served five years active duty in the United States Air Force Intelligence Field.


Maggie OsburnMaggie Osburn | Vice President

Maggie Osburn, PHR, is vice president of business development for Intercare Insurance Solutions. In this role, Ms. Osburn spearheads Intercare’s business development activities in the San Diego region. Her expertise as a HR advisor enables her to effectively consult with San Diego’s major employers to help them select insurance solutions that are aligned with specific strategies and objectives. Ms. Osburn also leads forums and seminars that build positive relationships with Intercare clients and enables them to exchange ideas and information about critical business and industry issues they face.

Ms. Osburn joined Intercare in August 2006. She has more than 20 years of sales, training and consulting experience in the human resources arena across a variety of industries. Prior to joining Intercare, she served as senior vice president of global accounts for Lee Hecht Harrison, where she successfully developed and implemented customized career management and leadership consulting solutions for Fortune 500 companies. She earned her Professional in Human Resources (PHR) designation from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) in 1999, currently sits on the Institutional Review Board (IRB) for San Diego Hospice and is a member of the Compensation and Benefits Association, SHRM and Women in Technology, Inc. (WITI).

Ms. Osburn earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Auburn University.
